Tree Supervisor
About this role
One Acre Fund is seeking a high-energy Tree Supervisor to drive its Agroforestry and farmer impact initiatives in Tanzania. The role is responsible for leading field operations across 25 to 30 sites in the southern highlands, overseeing seedling marketing, distribution, and community training efforts to achieve annual adoption and planting targets. The Tree Supervisor will partner closely with the Agroforestry Specialist to build and execute distribution schedules for both vendor-supplied and outgrower seedlings, and will train temporary staff, Carbon Credits Officers, and smallholder farmers on best practices for seedling care, optimal planting windows, and safe handling during transport. Mobilization leadership is a central duty, requiring the incumbent to ensure farmers are fully informed, prepared, and equipped to successfully collect and plant their seedlings.
The post-holder will own team performance metrics and quality control measures, conduct unannounced field audits to validate data and identify performance variances, and lead tree impact surveys while enforcing strict data collection and backcheck standards. Continuous improvement expectations include reviewing training materials and translating field insights into actionable district plans. On the people side, the Tree Supervisor will motivate and manage temporary staff and external stakeholders, fostering a workplace culture rooted in psychological safety, customer service, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion values, while also managing workforce administration and coordinating staff coverage to ensure seamless program continuity. Cost mindfulness and active championing of cost-control measures across all areas of field management are required.
Candidates must hold an Advanced Diploma or equivalent degree in Agriculture, Agroforestry, or a related field, possess 2 to 3 or more years of experience in a management or supervisory role leading field teams or external stakeholders, and demonstrate practical experience in agriculture, agroforestry, or community development. Tech-savviness with modern workplace tools, proficiency on mobile tablet devices for field operations, basic data analysis capabilities, and business-proficient written and spoken English are mandatory.
