Project Officer, AMR

Amref Health Africa Tanzania is seeking a qualified Project Officer to provide technical implementation support for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) interventions across the organisation's health programmes. The role involves coordinating the Commonwealth Partnerships for Antimicrobial Stewardship (CwPAMS) hub-and-spoke model, strengthening collaboration among pharmacy teams, multidisciplinary clinical teams, Medicines and Therapeutics Committees (MTCs), and health facility management. The Project Officer will facilitate the review, interpretation, and utilisation of AMR surveillance data, facility antibiograms, antimicrobial consumption data, and medicines use information to strengthen evidence-based prescribing practices and antimicrobial stewardship interventions. The position also encompasses developing, adapting, and disseminating technical guidelines, standard operating procedures, mentorship tools, training materials, policy briefs, and other implementation resources, as well as participating in technical mentorship, supportive supervision, quality improvement initiatives, and capacity-building activities at national and sub-national levels.

The role requires maintaining effective collaboration with the National AMR Secretariat, Medicines Control Committee (MCC), AMR Technical Working Groups (TWGs), National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), sentinel surveillance sites, and One Health stakeholders, and supporting the planning of World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) activities. Monitoring implementation progress against approved work plans, preparing high-quality technical reports and donor reports, and ensuring compliance with organisational, donor, and national reporting requirements are key responsibilities. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Medicine, Medical Microbiology, or another relevant health-related discipline, with a Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Global Health, Clinical Pharmacy, Medical or Clinical Microbiology, One Health, or Health Systems Management being an added advantage. Demonstrated practical experience working with MTCs, supporting medicines governance, planning and delivering technical training, and implementing health programmes at facility, district, or national level is essential.

A good understanding of Tanzania's AMR governance framework, health system structures, national policies, and regulatory environment is required, along with experience collaborating with government institutions, development partners, and healthcare professionals. Proven experience in project implementation, monitoring, documentation, and technical reporting, as well as experience implementing CwPAMS or
