Global MEL Senior Associate

One Acre Fund

About this role

One Acre Fund is recruiting a Global MEL Senior Associate on a two-year fixed-term contract to strengthen monitoring, evaluation and learning across its growth country portfolio and agroforestry programme. The post is open to candidates based in Burundi, DRC, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania or Zambia, with a flexible duty station. The post-holder serves as the primary technical resource for country MEL Leads in a portfolio of two to three programmes, providing structured guidance and feedback. Day-to-day work includes reviewing survey instruments and CommCare data collection tools, strengthening data quality backcheck and automated validation processes, and quality-controlling reports, dashboards and presentations.

The associate advises on evaluation design, applies quasi-experimental methods and randomised controlled trials, and surfaces methodological risks early to the Global Senior Manager and MEL Director. The role also contributes to global MEL initiatives such as trainings, shared tools and cross-programme methodology projects, and may support the agroforestry portfolio analytically. Candidates must hold a master's degree in economics, applied statistics, agricultural economics or a related field, with at least three years of experience in monitoring, evaluation or applied research. Proficiency in Stata is required and R is a plus, alongside demonstrated experience with propensity score matching, difference-in-differences or randomised controlled trials.

A background in agriculture is required, while agroforestry, tree planting or forest ecosystem measurement experience is strongly preferred. Fluency in English is required, and French is a significant asset for candidates supporting the DRC. One Acre Fund equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers across nine countries with farm supplies, tree seedlings, credit and agronomic training. The associate reports to a Senior Manager on the Global MEL Team, works from a flexible location and travels regionally roughly 10 to 25 percent of the time.

Benefits include health insurance, housing and a comprehensive package. Applications close on 4 November 2026 and are reviewed on a rolling basis via the One Acre Fund careers portal.
