Carbon Finance Manager
About this role
One Acre Fund is hiring a Carbon Finance Manager on a one-year renewable fixed-term contract to build the financial modelling and fundraising backbone for its agroforestry carbon programmes. It sits in the Payments for Ecosystem Services team within the Impact and R&D Division, liaising with Business Development, Finance, and Program Operations. Roughly 40 percent of the job is owning financial modelling and analysis. The post-holder builds and stress-tests complex models of carbon credit production, operational costs, and financing structures, and keeps portfolio rollups for strategic decisions.
Another 30 percent involves raising organisational fluency in carbon finance, aligning forecasts with country programme teams and central Finance, and preparing leadership materials. The final 30 percent supports external fundraising: evaluating financing options, producing three-statement financial summaries for carbon buyers and investors, and running sensitivity analysis on pricing and risk. Candidates need a relevant academic background in finance or economics, plus advanced proficiency in financial modelling and accounting standards and proven ability to build dynamic models from scratch for project or structured finance across multiple jurisdictions. Familiarity with the operational and financial realities of high-integrity PES programs is expected, ideally through Voluntary Carbon Market experience.
Five or more years of professional experience are required, including at least three in climate finance or accounting and one year in a country of operation. Preferred strengths include nature-based carbon financing at smallholder level and multi-year budget setting. One Acre Fund, founded in 2006, serves 5.5 million smallholder farmers across nine countries and runs four agroforestry carbon programmes with close to 40,000 farmers. The location is flexible among Kenya, Rwanda, Malawi, Zambia, and Tanzania, and only citizens or permanent residents of these countries may apply.
Benefits include health insurance, housing, and comprehensive support, with weekly check-ins and six-month career reviews. Applications close on 15 October 2026, and hiring continues on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
