Operations & Finance
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
About this role
PATH is recruiting a Chief Financial Officer to serve as the financial architect of its next strategic cycle, PATH 2030, based at the country programme office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The newly consolidated role sits at the centre of a leaner organisation committed to financial discipline. Three board-level priorities define the mandate. The first is financial resilience and diversification: scenario-based planning, a disciplined reserves policy, and a deliberate shift in the funding mix across US government, multilateral, philanthropic, and earned-income streams.
The second is funder confidence, serving as PATH's senior financial counterpart to the Gates Foundation and other major philanthropic partners through co-investment structures, milestone-based funding, foundation-grade reporting, and joint financial planning on flagship programmes. The third is operational modernisation across Finance, IT, and Continuous Improvement, covering enterprise systems, automation, measurable efficiency gains, and stronger financial management capability in country offices. The post-holder also acts as the primary management counterpart to the Board's Finance and Audit committees and partners with the CEO and General Counsel on enterprise risk. Essential requirements include at least 15 years of progressive financial leadership with executive experience as a CFO, Deputy CFO, or VP Finance in complex international organisations; deep command of the US regulatory environment for international NGOs, including 501(c)(3) status, Form 990, Uniform Guidance, federal awards, and single audits; direct experience with major global health funders such as the Gates Foundation, USG agencies, the Global Fund, and Gavi; and a track record of leading finance through transformation and large, dispersed teams.
Desirable additions include innovative finance or philanthropy experience, oversight of AI or enterprise systems transformation, and an advanced degree with a CPA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification. The post is full time. For US-based candidates the salary range is $240,000 to $300,000, with a comprehensive benefits package covering vacation, holidays, sick leave, medical, dental, life, disability, and retirement. Applications are submitted through PATH's careers portal.
