Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University affiliate, is seeking a Transport Officer in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Under the Senior Manager, Operations, the position coordinates and allocates vehicles for Jhpiego staff, supervises drivers and lead drivers, and oversees vehicle and motorcycle maintenance, fuel purchasing, and safe, reliable transport for Jhpiego projects. The Transport Officer manages daily vehicle requests, works with program assistants and regional leads on transport planning, and updates senior management on fleet status. Responsibilities include enforcing vehicle and fuel standard operating procedures, reconciling fuel cards and payments with Total Tanzania and credit fuel facilities, maintaining the fleet management system and fuel dashboard, arranging maintenance and vendor checks, conducting quarterly inspections, coordinating driver training and meetings, and mentoring lead drivers.
The role also reviews driver expense reports, supports route planning for budgets, coordinates taxi and Bolt use, and drives project vehicles when necessary. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree or advanced diploma in automobile or mechanical engineering, with a transport management qualification preferred, plus at least four to six years of fleet management experience at a supervisory level. Candidates must hold a valid driving license with classes A, C1, C2, C3, D, E, and G, understand local transport regulations and safety precautions, and possess supervisory, scheduling, problem-solving, and English communication skills. Preferred attributes include flexibility for evenings, weekends, and public holidays, planning and negotiation abilities, computer literacy, and experience with fleet management software.
The full-time role is based in Dar es Salaam and reports to the Senior Manager, Operations, in close coordination with finance and administration.
