About this role

One Acre Fund, a mission-driven agricultural organisation founded in 2006, is seeking a Tree Implementation and Audit Intern to support its Tanzania programme. The organisation equips smallholder farmers across nine African countries with farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, and agronomic training, currently serving 5.5 million farmers. One Acre Fund's Tanzania programme, established in 2013 and headquartered in Iringa with offices in Mbeya, Njombe, and Moshi, supports more than 100,000 Tanzanian farmers with quality farm inputs and fruit tree seedlings. The Young Professionals Programme offers high-performing African graduates paid internships with substantive work assignments on high-impact projects, along with onboarding, mentorship, and career development support.

The intern will conduct field audits of tree nurseries to verify seedling production numbers, quality standards, and input distribution. Additional auditing responsibilities include verifying farmer enrolment data, identities, orders, and payment records through phone calls and field visits to prevent discrepancies. The role involves cross-checking seedling distribution quantities against records, investigating any shortfalls, and conducting field verification to ensure beneficiary data meets international Carbon Credit certification standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include data entry of enrolment forms, managing seedling distribution logistics at assigned field sites, collecting and verifying Transportation Management System forms, and drafting clear audit reports with actionable recommendations for management.

The ideal candidate holds a minimum Certificate-level qualification in any field, with preference for agriculture, forestry, or environmental studies. The role requires comfort using computers, tablets for mobile data collection, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to spend extended time in the field visiting nurseries and meeting farmers. This is a paid internship with a reasonable stipend provided for the contract duration, and rural-based interns receive assistance locating suitable housing. The position is open only to citizens or permanent residents of Tanzania and is based in Iringa, Njombe, Mbeya, or Songwe.
