Senior Manager – Administration and Educational Programmes

The Aga Khan University (AKU) is seeking a Senior Manager to oversee administration and educational programmes at its Arusha Climate and Environmental Research Centre (ACER) in Tanzania. This full-time position provides strategic leadership for the administrative and operational functions of ACER and the principal campus, supporting the Centre's research mission while ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements. The incumbent will strengthen coordination between researchers, partners, and administrative teams across AKU's East Africa operations. Core responsibilities include leading the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of educational programmes, coaching and developing administrative staff to foster a high-performance culture, and identifying and mitigating operational risks to ensure business continuity.

The role involves leading field schools, research visits, and academic activities, as well as managing logistical arrangements for visiting researchers, academic delegations, and institutional events. The Senior Manager will support the preparation and submission of grant proposals, monitor research project budgets, and work closely with the AKU Grants Support Office to track and report on grant activities. Oversight extends to the maintenance of ACER facilities and infrastructure, including accommodation units, demonstration plots, and research assets, as well as coordinating ICT resources and administrative systems. AKU is a private, autonomous university operating 13 teaching sites across six countries as part of the Aga Khan Development Network, with nearly 4,000 students and 14,000 staff members.
