About this role

The World Food Programme is recruiting a Programme Policy Officer, Climate Resilience for its Tanzania Country Office. The post is a 12-month Service Contract at SC9 level, based in Dar es Salaam, sitting within the Programme Unit and reporting to the Activity 7 Manager, supporting the climate resilience portfolio under the Country Strategic Plan 2022 to 2028. The role centres on project management and technical guidance. The officer monitors implementation of integrated resilience activities, undertakes field visits, reviews progress against objectives and identifies opportunities for collaboration.

They design and develop proposals within the climate resilience portfolio under the guidance of the Activity Manager and the SO3 Manager, and provide technical expertise on natural resource management, asset creation, regenerative agriculture and livelihood development. The position also involves preparing timely programme reports, coordinating the climate portfolio across the country office and with cooperating and development partners, representing WFP in public fora, and maintaining government relationships. Further duties include embedding gender and nutrition perspectives, building the capacity of WFP staff, partners and government, and producing knowledge products, briefs, case studies and lessons learned. Candidates must hold at least a bachelor's degree in climate studies, agriculture, environmental studies, natural resource management or international development, with a postgraduate degree an asset.

Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in climate mitigation and adaptation, natural resources management or agriculture is required, together with field experience in food security, rural livelihoods, asset creation or climate adaptation. Demonstrated experience engaging national and local governments, proven training facilitation skills, strong negotiation skills and proficiency in MS Office are essential, and fluency in English and Kiswahili is mandatory. Experience with nutrition-sensitive, gender, youth and inclusion programming, knowledge of WFP's Three-Pronged Approach and familiarity with UN system policies are desirable.
