Project Officer, Community Engagement and Social Behavior Change
About this role
The Project Officer – Community Engagement and Social Behavior Change (CE SBC) will lead implementation, oversight, and quality assurance of community-based RMNCAH interventions delivered through sub-granted civil society organizations and community systems. This role ensures all community-level activities including SBC platforms, CHW programming, male engagement, and social accountability interventions are implemented effectively, meet agreed milestones, and contribute to improved service uptake and health outcomes. The Project Officer CE SBC works closely with CSOs, community health workers, health care facilities, and Regional/Council Health Management Teams to ensure coordinated delivery of integrated RMNCAH, family planning, obstetric fistula, and MHPSS interventions. Core responsibilities span CSO oversight and sub-grant management, implementation management and field execution, community systems strengthening and capacity building, and monitoring, evaluation, and accountability.
The role also contributes to new project proposals and maintains Americares data protection policy. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Development Studies, Community Development, Gender Studies, Sociology, or related field, with a master's degree in Public Health or Social Sciences as an added advantage. Candidates must have minimum 5 years progressive experience in SBC, community engagement, and health promotion, with proven experience in RMNCAH, family planning, gender, MHPSS, and/or obstetric fistula programming. Demonstrated experience working with CSOs, sub-grantees, and community-based implementation models is required, along with sub-grant management, milestone tracking, and performance monitoring experience.
Strong community-level programming experience including CHWs and government health systems, facilitation, training, mentorship, stakeholder engagement, data-driven decision-making, and problem-solving skills are required. Strong written and verbal communication in English and Swahili and proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 are also required.
