About this role

Global Communities, an organisation that combines local and global insights across humanitarian assistance, sustainable development, and financial inclusion, is seeking a Project Director for the anticipated World Bank and Government of Tanzania Evidence-Based Parenting Models Addressing Gender-Based Violence (Bandebereho/Program P). This assignment sits within the broader Project for Advancing Gender Equality in Tanzania (PAMOJA), a multi-component initiative that includes economic opportunities for women, GBV prevention and response services, and innovations and partnerships. The objective of the 24-month assignment is to design, adapt, pilot, validate, and support the national rollout of a community-based social norms change and GBV prevention program in Tanzania Mainland, based on the Bandebereho model originally developed in Rwanda. The Project Director will coordinate delivery across four concurrent technical strands: formative research, program and curriculum adaptation, training of trainers, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning.

The assignment begins with intensive piloting in 2 districts before scaling progressively to a total of 15 councils across Mainland Tanzania. The role involves overseeing a team of staff, consultants, and partners; ensuring fidelity to the adapted Bandebereho curriculum from pilot through scale-up; maintaining compliance with World Bank rules and regulations and Government of Tanzania laws and guidelines; and serving as primary point of contact with the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups and the World Bank. A Master's degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related discipline is required along with a minimum of eight years of experience managing GBV prevention and community-based development programs. Candidates must have experience implementing programs or research in Tanzania as well as at least two countries beyond Tanzania, and must have served as Team Leader or Project Director on at least two similar projects involving qualitative and participatory research in GBV, social norms change, and community-based interventions.
