Head of Sub Office

WFP

About this role

WFP Tanzania operates a Country Office in Dar es Salaam alongside Sub-Offices in Kigoma, Arusha, and Zanzibar, with a Liaison Office in Dodoma for government engagement. The Kasulu Sub Office manages a large refugee operation serving approximately 90,000 refugees in Kigoma Region, delivering food assistance, nutrition services, and resilience-building programmes for both refugees and host communities. The Sub Office implements livelihoods activities with smallholder farmers and AMCOS to strengthen market access and productivity, while also contributing to nutrition outcomes through malnutrition prevention and food fortification initiatives. The Head of Sub Office (NOB) is a fixed-term position based in Kasulu, reporting to the Area Office.

This role leads day-to-day management of the Sub Office, overseeing staff coordination and fostering a high-performing team environment, while ensuring timely and efficient delivery of food and nutrition assistance. The post holder coordinates both humanitarian and resilience interventions, monitors allocated resources against approved budgets, and ensures adherence to WFP and UNDSS security policies. Key responsibilities include maintaining regular presence across refugee camps and distribution sites, coordinating with local authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners, and representing WFP at field-level coordination forums including refugee response platforms. The role requires an advanced university degree in Economics, International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field, or a first degree with additional professional experience.

Candidates should have five years of relevant experience including field rotations, proven team leadership, and demonstrated experience working in refugee or displacement settings with familiarity of camp-based operations and UNHCR coordination. Knowledge of humanitarian operations, smallholder agriculture systems, AMCOS, and nutrition programming is desirable. WFP offers a highly inclusive and multicultural working environment, comprehensive professional development programmes, internal mobility opportunities, and an attractive compensation package. Applications close on 10 July 2026.
