Country Representative Tanzania
About this role
WeWorld is recruiting a Country Representative to lead its country office in Tanzania, overseeing the full portfolio of humanitarian and development programmes. Reporting to the Head of Regional Unit, the Representative serves as the senior official responsible for strategic direction, operational quality, financial sustainability, and external relations across all of WeWorld's programming in the country. The role encompasses multi-sectoral interventions spanning WASH, Education, Child Protection, Food Security, Cash/Voucher Assistance, and Gender-Based Violence programming. Key responsibilities include ensuring organisational compliance with local legislation, developing and implementing the country strategy aligned with organisational priorities, leading grant acquisition efforts and managing a growing project portfolio, supervising project managers and partner coordinators on performance and quality, overseeing financial sustainability through effective budget administration and procurement management, and representing WeWorld to government ministries, donors, UN agencies, civil society networks, and the media at the national level.
The position also carries responsibility for security management within the country. The ideal candidate holds a relevant Master's degree and brings at least five years of humanitarian or development experience, including three years in a senior management role with direct supervision of large multi-cultural teams and management of multi-donor funded projects. Prior experience with EU funding mechanisms and compliance is strongly preferred. WeWorld has operated in Tanzania since 2010, implementing school-centered programmes in Dar es Salaam and Ludewa district reaching nearly 25,000 beneficiaries, and is currently implementing multi-country initiatives co-financed by the European Commission including the Kijani Pemba eco-resilience programme in Zanzibar, the cross-border peacebuilding project Kujenga Amani Pamoja, and the education retention programme Pamoja Tudumishe Elimu.
The role is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is designated as a Family Duty Station, and is offered on a full-time basis. Applications are being accepted through the WeWorld online recruitment portal until 24 July 2026.
