About this role

Jhpiego is recruiting a program assistant for its Early Detection of Breast Cancer Program in Tanzania. Based in Dar es Salaam, the post sits within the BEAT Breast Cancer project and supports national-level planning, implementation, documentation and reporting, plus monitoring and evaluation (M&E) in Zanzibar. Jhpiego is a Johns Hopkins University affiliate and donor-funded health organization. Working under the Project Director and M&E Senior Specialist, the assistant coordinates monthly activity plans and works with Ministry of Health counterparts in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar on clinical breast examination, referral and diagnostic linkages, training, mentorship, and quality improvement.

Core duties include preparing work plans, activity budgets, agendas, minutes and action trackers; compiling monthly, quarterly, annual and donor reports; documenting lessons learned; coordinating follow-up; and tracking national activity budgets with the finance team. In Zanzibar, the assistant helps gather, clean, reconcile and report breast and cervical cancer early detection data, supports health information systems and data review meetings, and addresses data quality gaps. Candidates need a degree in medicine or equivalent and at least three to four years of experience supporting public health programs, preferably on women's cancers. Essential experience includes national and subnational planning, data collection and analysis, M&E and health information systems, Ministry of Health collaboration, and training workshops.

Familiarity with clinical breast examination services, current knowledge of breast cancer management, Zanzibar's health system, donor-funded projects, and strong English and Kiswahili communication skills are highly valued. Preferred qualifications include strong facilitation and written communication skills and willingness to travel domestically.
