Manager, GEF Portfolio - Tanzania

WWF

About this role

WWF is recruiting a Manager to lead its expanding Global Environment Facility (GEF) portfolio in Tanzania, a role based in Dar es Salaam. The position sits within the WWF GEF Agency and the WWF Tanzania Country Office and carries responsibility for national project origination and pipeline development, implementation oversight and compliance, government and stakeholder coordination, and portfolio-level monitoring and reporting. The Manager will identify and develop WWF GEF Agency project opportunities in Tanzania in close collaboration with government counterparts, lead the preparation of concept notes and full project documents, and ensure that all submissions align with national priorities and GEF policies and standards. The role also requires overseeing active WWF GEF projects across Tanzania, supporting executing partners in adaptive management and problem-solving, monitoring delivery, risks, safeguards, and compliance, and maintaining timely reporting to the WWF GEF Agency.

As WWF Tanzania's focal point for GEF-related coordination, the Manager will cultivate strong working relationships with relevant ministries and institutions, represent WWF in national GEF meetings and coordination platforms, and facilitate alignment between projects and national development strategies. The position further involves building understanding of GEF processes among government, partners, and WWF Tanzania teams, and contributing feedback to improve WWF GEF Agency tools and processes based on lessons from the Tanzania portfolio. Minimum requirements include a relevant university degree and proven experience in managing international donor-funded projects, ideally within Tanzania or East Africa. Desirable qualifications include strong technical expertise in environmental and climate finance, familiarity with GEF operational policies and project cycles, and experience working across government, civil society, and development partners.

WWF is an independent global conservation organization with more than 60 years of experience and an active presence in over 100 countries, working to sustain the natural world for the benefit of people and ecosystems. The position is full-time with a duty station in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Applications close on 18 August 2026 via the WWF online recruitment portal.
