The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) is seeking a qualified Mail and Pouch Assistant to join its General Services Section at the Arusha Branch in Tanzania. This is an individual contractor position initially funded for three months, with the possibility of extension subject to mandate continuation and availability of funds. The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Logistics Operations Officer and will be responsible for the efficient processing, documentation, tracking, and distribution of all incoming and outgoing mail, pouch shipments, and courier deliveries. Core duties include managing pouch dispatch documentation, preparing identification tags with destination details and airline carrier information, maintaining daily pouch logs, and ensuring accurate recording of all items received and dispatched through the mail and pouch units.
The role also involves signing for valuable shipments, sorting items by appropriate delivery method, and ensuring timely distribution of urgent, confidential, and official correspondence to internal and external stakeholders, including hand-delivering sensitive letters to embassies, government ministries, UN agencies, and NGOs. Additional responsibilities include receiving and logging certified, registered, and express mail; assisting with inspection of items for compliance with pouch and mail regulations; delivering and collecting travel documents to the Arusha Immigration Office; and supporting IRMCT staff with Tanzanian Revenue Authority tax registration. The ideal candidate must have completed high school diploma or equivalent, possess a minimum of two years of experience in mail or pouch registry operations, and hold a valid Category B driving license with ability to operate different vehicle categories. Fluency in oral and written English is required, and working knowledge of Swahili is desirable.
