Head of School, Tanzania and Uganda

Aga Khan Schools (AKS) is recruiting two Head of School positions, one in Tanzania and one in Uganda, with candidates welcome to apply for either or both through a single application. AKS is an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network and runs a global education system of schools, hostels and non-formal programmes serving more than 120,000 learners annually across 12 countries in East Africa, the Middle East and South and Central Asia. The Head of School is the senior educational and institutional leader, accountable to the relevant AKS Global Management Lead and the respective AKS Board while working closely with the AKS Global Office. Duties include promoting an educational vision rooted in excellence, pluralism, ethics and service, ensuring high-quality delivery of the IB continuum (PYP, MYP and DP where applicable) or other approved curricula, and fostering future-ready learning through innovation and responsible use of technology.

The post-holder leads the Senior Leadership Team, builds diverse values-driven teams, strengthens national capacity and succession pathways, and upholds safeguarding and pastoral care standards. The role also spans financial stewardship, human resources, operations, admissions, enrolment and risk management, and requires active contribution to network-wide initiatives. Applicants should bring proven senior leadership experience in high-performing international or independent schools, a strong record as an academic and pedagogical leader, experience across the IB continuum or comparable curricula, and success in team building, budgeting and complex educational operations. International professional experience in multicultural or resource-constrained settings is desirable, along with cultural intelligence, change leadership and strong relationship-building skills.
