Vocational Engineering Advisor

About this role

Cuso International, in partnership with VETA Moshi under the SHARE Project, is recruiting a Vocational Engineering Advisor to strengthen technical education at the Integrated Mining Technical Training (IMTT) Unit in Moshi, Tanzania. This five-month volunteer placement, starting in November 2026, is open exclusively to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. The advisor will work alongside local instructors to upgrade practical skills in bench work, sheet metal fabrication, welding, basic electrical systems, rigging, and workshop safety, building a sustainable training environment that equips youth with industry-ready competencies. Core responsibilities include assessing training needs and skills gaps among General Engineering instructors, delivering hands-on mentorship in precision measuring, thread cutting, component fitting, and safe tool use, designing practical training modules for sheet metal and fabrication, and elevating welding and metal joining standards.

The role also involves strengthening electrical systems instruction, implementing rigging and safe lifting operations, integrating technical drawings and manuals into daily instruction, developing applied projects that combine multiple trades, and championing occupational health, safety, and security standards with preventative maintenance routines. Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, mechatronics, or technical education engineering and have at least five years of hands-on experience in general engineering, workshop operations, industrial maintenance, or manufacturing. Strong competencies in bench work, sheet metal, welding, electrical troubleshooting, blueprint reading, and workshop machinery operation are essential, as is deep knowledge of occupational health and safety practices in training settings. The volunteer receives a monthly living allowance, accommodation, health insurance, round-trip airfare, visa and work permit costs, training, and ongoing local support.
