Environmental Education and Communication Expert

About this role

The African Wildlife Foundation is recruiting an Environmental Education and Communication Expert for an anticipated project in the Ruvuma Landscape, Tanzania. Based in Morogoro and reporting to the Project Team Lead in the Conservation Programs division, the expert will design, deliver, and monitor environmental education, conservation communication, and edutainment interventions that build support for human-wildlife coexistence across 42 target villages. The post-holder will also strengthen outreach capacities of wildlife authorities, district councils, and schools, using gender-sensitive, locally appropriate, evidence-based approaches. Responsibilities include designing outreach programmes for authorities and councils; revitalising the Malihai Club school programme, including curriculum updates and teacher training; developing curricula and edutainment materials in English and Swahili; piloting interventions in at least 30 villages in coordination with community mobilisation and land-use-planning teams; supporting sustainable financing; coordinating with government and traditional leaders; strengthening media engagement and journalist training on human-wildlife conflict; and monitoring the reach and effectiveness of activities, feeding lessons learned into project reporting.

A Master's degree in conservation communication and environmental education, edutainment, community development, or natural resource management is required. Candidates need five years in environmental education, four years in wildlife conservation, two years in rural community development, two years with local governments and traditional authorities, two years in conservation communication, four years in edutainment, two years developing educational programmes, and two years monitoring environmental education projects. The African Wildlife Foundation is a pan-African conservation organisation. This full-time post is based in Morogoro, Tanzania, and works in coordination with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.
