About this role

UNESCO's Dar es Salaam office is recruiting a Driver to provide safe and reliable transport services under a Service Contract at the SC2 level. The post sits within the Sector for Administration and Management and reports to the Finance and Administrative Officer, under the overall authority of the Head of Office and UNESCO Representative. The incumbent will drive UNESCO staff, officials, visitors and authorized personnel in official and project vehicles, meet arrivals at the airport, assist with visa and customs formalities, and translate between English and Kiswahili when needed. Daily work includes maintaining vehicle logs, checking tires, brakes, oil and water levels, arranging minor and major repairs at designated workshops, ensuring required documents and supplies are available, reporting accidents accurately, operating HF/VHF radio and satellite phones, and delivering or collecting mail and documents.

When not driving, the post holder may support photocopying, filing, bill payments and other office tasks, and may also cover for other drivers on leave. Candidates must hold a minimum high school certificate, a valid national driver's license, and at least five years of relevant working experience. Fluency in both English and Kiswahili is required, along with a proven ability to drive safely under local regulations, strong communication skills, knowledge of minor vehicle repairs, and familiarity with radio, email, telephone and other applications. Passengers Service Vehicle driving courses from reputable institutions, experience with various vehicle makes and models, and knowledge of UN driving rules are listed as advantages.

The working environment involves dense traffic, potentially difficult driving conditions, and occasional long or weekend hours when meeting officials. The contract is for three months, tentatively 1 October to 31 December 2026, and may be extended at the Head of Office's discretion based on operational needs, performance and funding.
