IHI

About this role

Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is seeking an experienced Budget and Grants Officer to join its team and provide dedicated support to the organization grants and contracts management function. The role is central to financial proposal development and donor-funded budget administration, working to ensure full compliance with donor requirements, internal financial procedures, and effective grants management across the organization portfolio of health research and public health projects. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and monitoring project budgets, coordinating agreements with implementing partners, supporting financial reporting and audit processes, and contributing to the strengthening of financial management systems and procedures to enable smooth and effective project implementation. Candidates must hold a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Accountancy, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field.

A CPA (Certified Public Accountant) qualification will be considered an added advantage and may strengthen an applicants candidacy. The role is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and is offered on a full-time contract basis. Candidates should expect to work closely with project teams, finance colleagues, and external donors to ensure that all financial and contractual obligations are met with precision and accountability. Ifakara Health Institute is a leading Tanzanian public health research, training, and services organization recognized as a registered charitable institution under the Income Tax Act, with a longstanding reputation for advancing health outcomes through rigorous research, capacity building, and evidence-based programme delivery across Tanzania and the wider East African region.

The organization operates across multiple thematic areas including disease control, health systems strengthening, maternal and child health, and environmental health, and manages a diverse portfolio of donor-funded initiatives. Applications must be submitted online through the Ifakara Health Institute Recruitment Portal by 16:30 East African Time on 14 August 2026. Late submissions will not be considered. Applications should include a comprehensive curriculum vitae and all relevant academic and professional credentials.
