About this role

CETL (Cambridge Education Tanzania Limited) is seeking an Assistant Finance Officer for a six-month paid internship through its Shule Bora project, a UK aid-funded government-led education support programme that aims to improve the quality of pre-primary and primary schools in Tanzania. The internship provides a recent graduate with first-hand experience implementing a large-scale government-led education initiative. The intern will work within the Finance department and report to the supervisor, with the internship being extendable by a further six months through mutual agreement. Core responsibilities include assisting with the preparation of bank reconciliation statements and ensuring timely submission to the UK head office, managing petty cash and maintaining regular reconciliation of cash balances, recording cash and transactions into applicable bank or cash books, providing support for payment and disbursement of cash payments such as per diems, producing reconciliation of payments and supporting documents for appropriate retirement, compiling vendors lists and collating vouchers for batch processing within the financial system, assisting in the preparation of payment vouchers and cheques, ensuring timely settlement of undisputed invoices, checking that all payment vouchers meet minimum audit requirements, and ensuring tax compliance with particular reference to withholding tax.

The ideal candidate must be Tanzanian, a fresh graduate or someone with two years or less of working experience, and must have obtained a minimum of an upper-second class degree or equivalent in Finance or Accounting. The candidate should be a proactive problem-solver with good timekeeping and communication skills, demonstrate a strong interest in improving education for all, and be fluent in spoken and written English. The Shule Bora programme supports the delivery of the EPforR II process nationally and works in nine regions of Tanzania with technical assistance from Cambridge Education in partnership with Plan International.
