Assistant Accountant, PPB Direct Financing Support

WWF

About this role

WWF Tanzania is seeking an Assistant Accountant to support the People Powering Biodiversity (PPB) Project in the Ruvuma Landscape. The PPB Project channels programme resources directly to community institutions to support locally driven conservation and sustainable livelihood initiatives. Following an institutional assessment that identified capacity constraints in everyday financial handling at village level, WWF Tanzania requires field-based accounting assistance to ensure resources are managed responsibly and consistently. The Assistant Accountant will reinforce the quality and consistency of financial administration associated with village-level PPB funding while easing routine operational demands on the Landscape Accountant.

Core responsibilities include providing hands-on guidance to village personnel on accurately capturing receipts and payments in simple financial records, carrying out regular field follow-up visits to review documentation and confirm expenses align with approved workplans and funding parameters, organising financial and administrative papers using practical filing approaches, and reviewing supporting paperwork submitted by villages prior to the release of subsequent funding instalments. The role also involves preparing periodic financial reports and simple year-end financial overviews regarding Direct Financing, flagging emerging issues or documentation gaps to the Landscape Accountant, and supporting the implementation of corrective measures identified during reviews. The ideal candidate holds a university degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a relevant discipline, with at least one year of applied experience in financial administration. Prior exposure to NGO, community-based, or public-sector financial environments is an advantage.

The position requires strong numerical accuracy, proficiency in spreadsheet and word-processing software, and the ability to communicate financial matters clearly to non-specialists at community level. This is a short-term employment engagement for six to twelve months, based at Masasi in the Ruvuma Landscape with regular field travel, reporting directly to the Ruvuma Landscape Accountant. Applications must be submitted through the WWF portal by 24 June 2026.
