About this role

The Delegation of the European Union to the United Republic of Tanzania and the East African Community is recruiting an Accounts Clerk for its Administration Section in Dar es Salaam. This full-time local agent post, Group III, is a two-year fixed-term contract with a nine-month probation period and possible renewal. The employee reports to the Head of Administration and may be assigned duties according to delegation needs. The clerk will act as initiating agent in the delegation's financial system, receiving and verifying invoices and payment requests against contracts and internal documents, registering them in the SUMMA system, executing payments in local bank accounts and following up outstanding transactions.

Additional tasks include maintaining contractor databases, encoding requests and commitments in budget and mission software, managing petty cash, monitoring budget execution, preparing monthly reports and annual budget estimates, handling closure and reconciliation, and preparing ex-post control files. Administrative support covers mission cost estimates, verification of mission claims and representation expenses, procurement assistance, monthly payroll for local agents, and administration of expatriate staff entitlements. Applicants need a post-secondary degree in accounting, audit, finance or equivalent, at least three years of relevant professional experience, English at CEFR B1 or above, the right to reside and work in Tanzania, and medical fitness. Desirable qualifications include experience in a diplomatic mission, development agency or international organisation, knowledge of EU tools and procedures, a Master's degree in a related field, or another EU language.

The EU Delegation functions as a diplomatic mission, coordinating with member state embassies and engaging with Tanzanian authorities and the East African Community. 5 hours per week, occasional overtime and travel, with no unusual physical requirements. The starting salary is typically 3,573,768 Tanzanian shillings, plus benefits such as leave, public holidays, health insurance and retirement savings.
