Economic Cooperation Coordinator
About this role
The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) is hiring a commission-contract Economic Cooperation Coordinator for its Embassy in Tanzania. Working with the aid-coordination team, the coordinator tracks Tanzanian Government priorities and donor trends in Development Partners Group (DPG) and sector meetings and reports analysis to the Embassy, MOFA headquarters and JICA. Attendance covers the monthly DPG plenary and related sessions, plus sector meetings in agriculture, energy, education and health led with JICA. The post-holder prepares interventions, answers research and mapping requests, collects information from partner networks, media, research institutes and multilateral banks, and assists project formation by commissioning concept notes, checking feasibility and monitoring implementation.
Logistical and substantive support to the Embassy's economic cooperation section chief is also expected. Applicants must be solely Japanese nationals and either hold a graduate degree or a bachelor's degree plus roughly three years of relevant practical experience. At least three years in development or economic cooperation is expected, and strong English, roughly IELTS 7, TOEFL iBT 100 or TOEIC 900 or above, is mandatory. Applicants must also be fit for long-term work in a developing country.
Experience in international organisations or NGOs, residence in developing countries, knowledge of aid coordination, project management or macro-financial skills, Tanzania experience and Swahili are desirable. The vacancy is managed by MOFA's Country Development Cooperation Division 3, responsible for ODA policy in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. The engagement is a commission contract, not employment, running 1 December 2026 to 31 March 2027 and renewable annually for up to three years. Standard Embassy hours are weekdays 07:30 to 16:30, with meetings sometimes outside those hours.
Monthly remuneration is reported as 500,000 yen or more; there are no social insurance or employment benefits, so the coordinator must arrange personal medical and emergency cover. Send a CV, language test results, a Japanese motivation statement and academic certificates to keikyochosein3@mofa.go.jp by noon Japan time on 5 October 2026.
