About this role

The World Bank Group's Country Office in Tanzania is hiring a Communications Intern to join its External Affairs team in Dar es Salaam, under the WBG Pioneers internship program. The intern will support media monitoring, social media management, and results storytelling that convey the impact of the Bank's programs in Tanzania. The daily media monitoring report has two components: an English media digest from outlets such as The Chanzo, The Citizen, and Daily News, and a Kiswahili press summary translated into English from outlets like Mwananchi and Habari Leo, not exceeding three pages. The intern will use AI tools, including WBG's mAI, to assist with search, translation, summarization, and first-draft drafting, while retaining editorial judgment.

Social media monitoring involves tracking platforms such as X, Instagram, TikTok, and blogs, flagging issues for management, and using AI for sentiment and volume analysis. The intern will also help translate social media objectives into an action plan, maintain the content calendar, support audience research, track metrics, and contribute to KPI development and performance reporting. Periodically, the intern will support multimedia documentation of World Bank-supported operations, involving domestic travel, beneficiary interviews, and photo and video capture. Candidates must be currently enrolled in or in the final year of an undergraduate program, have 0 to 6 years of relevant experience, and demonstrate strong analytical, research, communication, and organizational skills.

Proficiency in English is required; since the role involves translating Kiswahili press content, working knowledge of Kiswahili is effectively necessary. The World Bank Group has supported Tanzania for over 50 years, with a current portfolio of $9.0 billion across 34 operations. The internship is for five months, part-time, at grade T3, based in Dar es Salaam and reporting to the Senior External Affairs Officer.
