Project Assistant
About this role
Church World Service (CWS) is seeking a Project Assistant to support the effective implementation of Food Security and Livelihood activities at field level in Tanzania. The Project Assistant reports directly to the Project Manager and contributes to project delivery through community engagement, technical support to beneficiaries, accurate documentation and reporting, and the provision of safe and reliable transportation for staff and project materials, as required. Core responsibilities include conducting regular field visits to monitor activity delivery and provide timely assistance to beneficiaries, facilitating community meetings, training sessions, awareness activities, and farmer group engagements to promote project objectives and encourage participation. The role involves providing technical support to farmers and vulnerable households on crop production, poultry and livestock management, beekeeping, and other livelihood activities, while training and mentoring farmer groups, lead farmers, and project participants on livestock management, animal health, feeding practices, breeding, disease prevention, and other relevant technical topics.
The Project Assistant facilitates farmer trainings on Good Agricultural Practices and Good Animal Husbandry Practices, promotes the adoption of improved agricultural and livestock production practices, supports the formation and effective functioning of community groups and Village Savings and Loan Associations, and participates in beneficiary identification, assessments, surveys, monitoring, and evaluation activities. The role requires collecting, verifying, and maintaining accurate beneficiary and project activity data, assisting in the preparation and timely submission of weekly, monthly, and activity-specific reports, and collaborating with local government authorities, agricultural extension officers, community leaders, and other partners to support effective project implementation. The position also involves operating project vehicles safely, conducting daily and routine vehicle inspections, and maintaining accurate vehicle logbooks and service documentation. Required qualifications include a minimum of three years of relevant paid work experience in project support or community-based programming, demonstrated experience working with communities and farmer groups, previous experience facilitating training or community engagement activities as an added advantage, and relevant driving experience with a valid driving license.
