About this role
The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking a Programme Assistant - Volunteer to support its Tanzania Country Office in Dar es Salaam. This 12-month volunteer position provides administrative and coordination support to the programme team, specifically assisting the Activity 1 and Activity 2 Managers in their day-to-day operations. The role is situated within the Programme Unit and requires close collaboration with the Budget and Programming Unit, Finance, RAM, and Supply Chain divisions. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the SO1 Activity Manager and is expected to perform basic analyses and compile reports with minimal supervision to ensure information accuracy and consistency across programme activities.
Core responsibilities include providing backstopping support to both activity managers, coordinating meetings, workshops, and training sessions including preparation of materials and processing of participant payments, collecting and entering data and preparing summaries or reports, arranging meetings and drafting accurate meeting minutes with follow-up on action items, and maintaining proper electronic and physical filing systems for daily office operations. The Programme Assistant will also facilitate communication with local partners, agencies, NGOs, and government counterparts to support programme operations. Candidates must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated within the past twelve months from a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Sciences, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field. No formal work experience is required in line with internship norms, though prior exposure through volunteer work, university projects, or part-time roles in administration, data entry, or report drafting is desirable.
Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory and proficiency in Kiswahili is essential for communication with local partners and field operations.
