Nutrition Field Intern

SNV

About this role

SNV Netherlands Development Organisation is recruiting a Nutrition Intern to support nutrition activities across project districts and clusters in the Rukwa and Songwe Regions under the NOURISH Tanzania project, a five-year initiative focused on achieving resilient food security and improving nutrition for smallholder farmer households in Tanzania. The Nutrition Intern will work closely with community health workers, farmers, local leaders, extension officers, and other stakeholders at the community level, providing technical assistance and mentoring while promoting dietary diversity, infant and young child feeding practices, and improved household gender dynamics. Core responsibilities include facilitating and supporting the delivery of nutrition-focused Social and Behaviour Change Communication interventions targeting households, farmer groups, and nutrition groups, as well as conducting regular supportive supervision and coaching visits with government staff and community health workers to strengthen counselling quality and the use of behaviour change tools. The intern will also support capacity building for agriculture interns to ensure effective integration of nutrition within agriculture activities and collaborate with agriculture teams to promote production and consumption of nutrient-dense foods through kitchen gardens.

Monitoring, learning, and reporting duties encompass collecting nutrition-related field data using approved digital tools, supporting data quality verification, conducting basic data analysis, and documenting lessons learned, challenges, and success stories. Candidates must hold a diploma or bachelor's degree in nutrition, public health, community development, or a related field, with one to two years of relevant experience in the agriculture and or nutrition sector. Essential skills include proficiency in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili, computer literacy, strong interpersonal skills for community engagement, and experience with data collection and basic analysis. Prior experience working with rural communities, community health workers, or farmer groups, as well as familiarity with digital data collection platforms such as Kobo Collect, are added advantages.
