Government Relations Coordinator

One Acre Fund

About this role

One Acre Fund Tanzania is recruiting a Government Relations Coordinator, a fixed-term role based in Iringa, Tanzania. The organisation, founded in 2006, equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers across nine countries with farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit and agronomic training, and its Tanzania programme, established in 2013, serves more than 100,000 farmers from offices in Iringa, Mbeya, Njombe and Moshi. The coordinator owns key relationships with Local Government Authorities, leading liaison with regional and local authorities to unlock government collaboration and co-investment opportunities. They translate evolving regulatory requirements, including carbon, agroforestry, tax and environmental compliance, into practical field guidance while proactively identifying and mitigating operational risks.

Working with department leads and regional coordinators, the post-holder aligns government strategy with field operations so programme execution meets organisational targets. The role also carries team leadership duties: supervising and mentoring direct reports, building structured compliance systems and establishing scalable processes that support One Acre Fund's 2030 vision. Candidates should hold a bachelor's degree in government relations, public policy, public administration, development studies, law or a related field, plus at least three years of professional experience in local government relations, public sector engagement or regulatory compliance in Tanzania. A demonstrated track record of managing strategic relationships with LGAs and regional stakeholders is required, along with strong knowledge of local regulatory frameworks covering carbon, agroforestry, tax and environmental compliance.

Proven team leadership, excellent communication and risk mitigation skills, and fluency in English and Swahili are essential, and the source lists no separate preferred qualifications. The appointment is a one-year contract, open only to Tanzanian citizens or permanent residents, with a preferred start date as soon as possible. Benefits include health insurance and paid time off, and One Acre Fund describes a learning culture with weekly check-ins, mentorship, training and six-monthly career reviews. Applications close on 13 January 2027, with hiring conducted on a rolling basis until the post is filled.
