Research Officer

About this role

Ifakara Health Institute is seeking an experienced Research Officer to support malaria transmission research within its laboratory and field research environment in Tanzania. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge scientific work focused on malaria parasite biology, transmission dynamics, and vector interactions. Core responsibilities include conducting molecular biology techniques, maintaining malaria parasite cultures in vitro, performing laboratory experiments related to mosquito infectivity studies, and ensuring strict adherence to biosafety protocols within the BSL3 laboratory setting. The role further involves managing research documentation, supporting the implementation of study protocols, and contributing to the generation and dissemination of scientific findings.

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a closely related scientific field. Prior experience in parasite culture work, molecular biology laboratory procedures, and mosquito infectivity experiments will be an advantage. Ifakara Health Institute is a leading Tanzanian research organisation recognised as a registered charitable institution under the Income Tax Act, conducting research across malaria, other infectious diseases, and broader public health priorities. The institute operates through multiple branches and departments, supporting national and international research agendas.

This is a full-time position based in Tanzania, with the duty station in Dar es Salaam. The role reports to a senior researcher or laboratory lead within the institute.
