Research & M&E
Research Associate
About this role
Development Media International (DMI) is recruiting a Research Associate to join their research team in London. DMI delivers media campaigns aimed at changing behaviours, promoting health, and saving lives in low- and middle-income countries, and was the first organisation to scientifically demonstrate that mass media can increase life-saving behaviours. The Research Associate will support the design, delivery, analysis, and dissemination of DMI's research and evaluation activities, working closely with the Head of Research.
Core responsibilities include conducting quantitative analysis of formative and evaluation data using appropriate statistical methods and software, such as randomised controlled trials, difference-in-differences, interrupted time series, and matching-based approaches, contributing to high-quality reports and peer-reviewed academic publications, working with external research agencies to design and carry out surveys, supporting research teams in DMI's national offices to plan and conduct routine research activities including focus groups, supporting the design of effective and rigorous evaluations, and building research capacity among colleagues and sub-contractors in research methods, analysis, and interpretation. Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a relevant discipline such as epidemiology, public health, health economics, social sciences, statistics, or biomedical sciences, and demonstrate practical experience with statistical software such as Stata, SPSS, R, or SAS. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent academic writing skills in English, and the ability to communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences are essential, along with strong organisational skills and an understanding of international development contexts and sub-Saharan African cultural settings.
French language ability is highly desirable, as is practical experience in project design, monitoring, and evaluation in developing countries. The role is a full-time, one-year fixed-term contract based at DMI's London office with hybrid working in line with organisational policy, with normal expectation to work from the London office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and occasional international travel. The salary is £34,000 per annum, dependent on experience, plus a 5% pension contribution, 25 days annual leave, and private health insurance.
