About this role

FHI 360 is recruiting a Regional Technical Officer for Tuberculosis to strengthen TB prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment under the EpiC Project in Mtwara, Tanzania. The post-holder provides technical expertise to regional and council health teams, public and Police and Prison health facilities, and community platforms to integrate TB and HIV services in line with national guidelines and global recommendations. Day to day, the officer supports planning, implementation, monitoring and scale-up of TB interventions, including active case finding, screening, diagnosis, treatment initiation, TB preventive treatment, drug-resistant TB management, TB/HIV collaborative activities and infection prevention and control. The officer mentors health workers through supportive supervision, on-the-job training and clinical case reviews, and helps facilities build site-level improvement plans.

They routinely review programme data on screening, case notification, treatment outcomes and TB/HIV indicators, reconcile registers with digital reporting systems, and share lessons learned to drive continuous quality improvement. Coordination with the Ministry of Health, PnP health units, PMO-RALG, regional and council health management teams and implementing partners is central to the work. The position requires a medical or nursing degree from a recognised institution and at least four years of progressive experience in TB and TB/HIV programming, preferably within donor-funded public health programmes. Candidates must demonstrate experience providing technical assistance and capacity strengthening to government health authorities and facility teams, using programme data to identify gaps and drive improvement, and mentoring junior staff.

Fluency in English and Kiswahili is mandatory, alongside strong analytical, coordination and stakeholder engagement skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office. A master's degree in public health is an added advantage. The full-time role is based in Mtwara, reporting to the Regional Senior Technical Officer for Clinical Services, with domestic travel of 10 to 25 percent. The annual basic salary is TZS 52,000,000 to 65,000,000.
