HR Assistant
About this role
The World Food Programme is recruiting an HR Assistant for its country office in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on a full-time WFP Volunteer contract. The position sits within the human resources function and supports the delivery of accurate, client-focused HR services to staff across the Tanzania operation. The post-holder will handle a broad range of day-to-day HR tasks. This includes responding to general HR queries and following up outstanding actions, liaising with internal units such as payroll and contracts to enable timely services, and compiling HR data on recruitment, contractual conditions, entitlements, performance and training requirements for analysis and reporting.
The role also covers onboarding support for new staff, maintenance of confidential personnel records and HR databases, drafting of HR documents such as employment contracts and transfer letters, and use of HR systems to update data while monitoring deadlines. The assistant supports staff deployment and prepares basic reports. Candidates must have completed secondary school education, with a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area considered desirable. Fluency in oral and written communication in the UN language used at the duty station, and in the local language if different, is required.
WFP expects applicants to have implemented HR policy and procedures in line with its operating standards, to have conducted HR services work such as payroll administration and recruitment and interview administration, to have guided less experienced staff and briefed new recruits during onboarding, and to have worked across varied contexts. WFP is the world's largest humanitarian organisation and a 2020 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, delivering food assistance in emergencies and building pathways to peace, stability and prosperity. An attractive compensation package applies under the terms and conditions in the vacancy announcement. Applications must be submitted through WFP's online recruiting system with a CV and cover letter by 28 October 2026.
