Project Manager
About this role
Plan International is recruiting a Project Manager for an anticipated initiative in Tanga Region, Tanzania, that strengthens young people's sexual and reproductive health and rights. The project is expected to be implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the Prime Minister's Office for Regional Administration and Local Government, and the post-holder will hold overall responsibility for the contractor's advisory packages once the award is confirmed. The manager will ensure coherence between the contractor's work and other project activities nationally and locally, design and oversee capacity development for local partners in adolescent SRHR, life skills and gender-transformative approaches, and secure buy-in from regional, district and village officials.
Community engagement with opinion leaders is a particular focus, and the manager also oversees social and mass media campaigns, coordinating partners, managing short-term experts and assuring quality of communication products. Other duties include supporting a small-grants mechanism for civil society organisations, mainstreaming gender equality, managing staff and short-term assignments within budget, monitoring, reporting, and checking expenditure and financial planning with the GIZ commission manager. Candidates need a master's degree in public health, gender studies or social science and a bachelor's degree in medicine, nursing, public health or social science, with seven years designing and implementing large youth-focused health programmes and five years with gender-transformative approaches.
Plan International also requires five years of management experience in an international organisation, including line management and oversight of budgets above EUR 650,000 annually, international experience outside the country or region of assignment, and fluency in English and Kiswahili. Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children's rights and equality for girls across more than 80 countries. The post is full time and based in Tanga, reporting to the Head of Program Implementation, and applications close on 31 October 2026.
