Programme Policy Officer, Climate Resilience

WFP Tanzania is seeking an experienced National Programme Policy Officer to support the design, management, and delivery of climate resilience programming within the Country Office. The position sits under WFP's country strategic plan covering 2022 to 2028, which works with communities and local institutions to support integrated resilience building, enabling them to mitigate and prevent environmental degradation and promote climate change adaptation. The role will support existing landscape rehabilitation and natural resource management initiatives, coordinate climate-focused activities across the Country Office, provide programme management and technical support to teams and partners, and help foster strategic partnerships.

Reporting to the Activity 7 Manager, the post holder will carry out the following core responsibilities: monitoring implementation and undertaking field visits to ensure progress towards objectives; designing and developing climate resilience proposals under the guidance of senior management; providing technical expertise on natural resource management, asset creation, regenerative agriculture, and livelihood development; contributing to accurate and timely reporting for informed decision making; coordinating the climate resilience portfolio across the Country Office, cooperating partners, and development partners; representing WFP in public fora and maintaining relationships with government and development partners; ensuring gender and nutrition perspectives are embedded in programming to empower women, men, and marginalized groups; supporting capacity building of WFP staff, partners, and national government on climate resilience concepts; and producing knowledge products including briefs, case studies, and lessons learned. The minimum qualification is a bachelor's degree in climate studies, agriculture, environmental studies, natural resource management, international development, or a related discipline, with a postgraduate degree considered an asset. Candidates must have five or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in climate mitigation and adaptation, natural resource management, agriculture, or international development, with field experience in food security, sustainable development, rural livelihoods, or climate change programmes.
