People and Culture Manager

About this role

CAMFED (Campaign for Female Education), an award-winning organisation tackling poverty and inequality by supporting girls from rural areas across Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, is hiring a People and Culture Manager for its Zambia programme. Based in Lusaka and reporting to the Executive Director, the post holder will be a strategic advisor and operational partner to the Zambia Management Team, ensuring people strategies, policies and practices enable organisational success. Responsibilities span the full employee lifecycle: maintaining efficient and consistent local people processes, supporting monthly payroll with the finance team and outsourced provider, administering and optimising the HiBob HRIS, and acting as the primary HRIS contact for staff in Zambia. The role leads employee relations and case management, including disciplinary, grievance, conduct, performance and capability matters, ensuring compliance with Zambian employment legislation.

It also oversees end-to-end recruitment through Teamtailor, supports annual budgeting and headcount planning, and embeds a business partnering approach, coaching senior leaders and strengthening management capability. Partnering with the Safeguarding Lead is part of the work, as is contributing to the Global People and Culture team. Essential requirements include experience leading or maintaining a People Operations function, strategic HR business partnering experience, a relevant HR qualification, up-to-date employment law knowledge, strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, proven handling of complex employee relations, strategic thinking, and analytical abilities. A Master's degree in business administration, human resources or organisational development, organisational development expertise, NGO experience and Sub-Saharan Africa experience are desirable.

CAMFED has been in Zambia since 2001, working with the Ministry of Education and communities and growing from three districts to nationwide reach.
