About this role

One Acre Fund is hiring a Tree Specialist to drive its tree marketing and distribution work in Tanzania, based in Njombe or Mbeya. The post holder will lead execution of annual marketing, farmer enrollment, and seedling distribution strategies in designated districts to boost product adoption and farmer participation. They will direct field operations across 100 to 150 sites, manage species selection and seedling distribution pipelines, and track post-distribution survival to meet impact and sustainability goals. The Specialist will directly manage and mentor 6 to 10 Tree Supervisors, set performance targets, and provide training on technical agroforestry practices, behavioral change techniques, and customer service.

They will also develop training materials for farmers on tree management and long-term care, and coordinate with local government stakeholders, cross-functional teams, and external partners to keep programs aligned. Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience in field operations, program marketing, product adoption, sales, or community behavioral change initiatives. Strong technical knowledge of agroforestry, tree management, seedling pipelines, or agricultural extension is required, along with demonstrated experience leading and mentoring field-based teams. A degree or equivalent training in Agroforestry, Agriculture, Marketing, Business Administration, Development Studies, or a related field is expected, as are excellent interpersonal, training, and communication skills for engaging rural farming communities and local stakeholders.

5 million smallholder farmers across nine countries with farm supplies, tree seedlings, credit, and agronomic training. Its Tanzania program, launched in 2013, supports more than 100,000 farmers and is headquartered in Iringa with smaller offices in Mbeya, Njombe, and Moshi. The role carries a one-year contract, includes health insurance and paid time off, and is open only to Tanzanian citizens or permanent residents. The preferred start date is as soon as possible.
