Public Health
Program Officer
About this role
Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University affiliate, is recruiting a Program Officer for its Dar es Salaam office. The post sits within the AFGHS project, funded by the U.S. Department of State to support maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) and malaria services across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. The officer supports regional program planning, coordinating and monitoring annual, quarterly and monthly workplans across MNCH and malaria technical areas, and tracks progress against targets, milestones and deliverables, flagging delays and supporting corrective action.
The role organises technical meetings, workshops, trainings and field visits, and works with finance, administration, procurement and logistics colleagues on activity budgets, advances and payment requests. With technical and monitoring and evaluation teams, the officer compiles implementation updates, prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports, and documents lessons learned and success stories. Applicants need a bachelor's degree in public health, social sciences or development studies, or equivalent experience, plus five years of work experience in a voluntary, public, private sector or NGO setting. Jhpiego also expects the ability to coach and mentor technical staff in RMNCAH, performance and quality improvement, strong self-management under deadline pressure, and excellent written and presentation skills.
Preferred candidates will have experience with USG-funded programs, RMNCH and malaria service delivery, computer literacy in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and strong English and Kiswahili. The officer reports to the Senior Program Manager and works with the Ministries of Health in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, national malaria and reproductive health programmes, and regional and council health management teams, supporting government-led planning and the transition of activities into local ownership. This is a full-time local position based in Dar es Salaam. Jhpiego offers competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package.
Applications, including a cover letter, resume and references in a single document, must be submitted through jhpiego.org/careers by October 23, 2026.
