About this role

UNFPA is seeking a Programme Specialist for Gender and Youth Empowerment for its Tanzania Country Office in Dar es Salaam. The post holder leads the country office's work on advancing gender equality and the economic empowerment of women and young people, with focused attention on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), prevention of gender-based violence (GBV), ending harmful practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation, and promoting meaningful youth participation and leadership. The specialist provides technical and policy support, coordinates with government, UN agencies, civil society and youth networks, mobilizes resources, and supports disability-inclusive and gender-transformative approaches. The work also includes programme and workplan management, budget oversight, results-based management, monitoring and evaluation, knowledge generation, and supervision of the Gender and Youth Empowerment team.

Candidates must hold a master's degree in gender studies, sociology, public health, development studies, public policy, development management, law, human rights, or a related field, and have at least five years of experience in gender equality, women's empowerment, SRHR, or economic empowerment programming for women, adolescent girls and young people. Demonstrated expertise in adolescent and youth development, civic engagement, gender equality and GBV, along with experience engaging government, development partners, civil society and the private sector, is required. Fluency in English is required; Kiswahili or another UN language is desirable, and experience with adolescent and youth, human rights, or gender programmes is an advantage. UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, focused on ending preventable maternal deaths, unmet need for family planning, and gender-based violence and harmful practices.
