HR Business Partner

About this role

Jaza Energy is recruiting a Human Resources Business Partner to shape people operations in Tanzania. The company builds solar-powered shops whose batteries customers use to power their homes. Since 2022 it has recorded over four million battery swaps, giving roughly 225,000 people access to clean, affordable energy, and employs women from each community as Jaza Stars to run the service. The post-holder partners with business leaders and employees to align HR practices with organisational goals, acting as the link between local teams, leadership, and the global HR function.

On employee relations and compliance, the HRBP resolves complex cases such as investigations, disciplinary processes and grievances, maintains working knowledge of Tanzanian labour law, advises on restructures and workforce planning, and ensures consistent application of company policy. On talent and performance, the role runs the full annual performance cycle for an assigned oversight group, covering goal setting, mid-year reviews and year-end evaluations, works with function leads on succession planning and talent reviews, and supports recruitment, onboarding and key hiring decisions. On administration and operations, the HRBP maintains accurate records in HRIS and payroll platforms, submits monthly payroll data to the HR Lead and Rewards team, drafts contracts and offer letters, and reports on headcount, turnover and attendance. It also runs engagement programmes, analyses survey results, and supervises the Office Administrator.

Candidates need a bachelor's degree in human resource management, public administration, psychology or a related field, plus three to five years of progressive HR experience, at least three in a generalist role. HRIS experience is required and familiarity with an HRMS is a strong plus. Negotiation, conflict resolution, confidentiality and adaptability are also valued. This is a full-time position based in Dar es Salaam, within the Group and Country HR team.
