Climate
Environment and Climate Action Senior Advisor
About this role
World Vision Tanzania is seeking an Environment and Climate Action Senior Advisor to provide technical and strategic leadership on environmental sustainability and climate change action across the East Africa region. This senior-level position supports field offices in designing and implementing environmental stewardship and climate action programmes within development work, emergency response, and advocacy initiatives. The advisor will conduct quality assurance of implementation on a sampling basis, assess capacity gaps in field offices, and carry out trainings of field staff on core project models and approaches related to environmental stewardship and climate action. A significant focus involves strengthening World Vision's capacity to pre-position for large-scale climate financing, particularly through the Green Climate Fund, while supporting field offices to integrate climate resilience across programming and elevating World Vision's profile as a preferred partner for climate funding and implementation.
The role requires leading technical support, donor engagement, innovative financing efforts, and thought leadership while ensuring high-quality environmental and climate action programme design, implementation, and resource mobilisation. Core responsibilities span four areas: rolling out the Environmental Stewardship Policy across the East Africa regional office and supporting integrated programming in field offices, with approximately 40 percent of effort devoted to capacity building, monitoring, and developing compelling materials. Thirty percent of the role focuses on leading regional efforts to pre-position for the Green Climate Fund and other large-scale climate funding sources, including developing bankable climate proposals and identifying emerging fund opportunities. Donor engagement, partnerships, and external positioning consume another significant portion, involving strategic engagement with Nairobi-based donors, climate finance institutions, and research partners, while representing World Vision in regional and global climate forums.
The remaining effort addresses capacity building and nexus programming between humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding actors. The ideal candidate holds a Master's degree in Environmental Sciences or Climate Change, with a degree in Program Management or International Development as an added advantage.
