Deputy Representative, Operations

UNICEF

About this role

UNICEF is recruiting a Deputy Representative Operations at the P-5 level for a temporary position lasting four months in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The post acts as a strategic business partner and deputy to the Head of Office, managing services spanning budget, financial management, facilities, administration, supply and logistics, ICT, and safety and security. The post-holder will act as Officer in Charge when the Head of Office is absent, represent risk and governance perspectives on Country and Senior Management Teams, and promote results-based management. This includes convening operations functions to arrive at a unified vision and leveraging technology for results and accountability.

They will also guide supply and logistics strategies to ensure value for money, oversee GSSC business transactions, support private sector fundraising, and ensure operations remain fit for purpose in humanitarian emergencies. Candidates must hold an advanced university degree in business, finance, accounting, supply, information management, or a related discipline, or a full professional accounting designation. At least ten years of relevant national and international experience, demonstrated strategic leadership, Microsoft Office proficiency, results-based management experience, and English fluency are required. Desirable qualifications include another UN language or local language, ERP and IPSAS experience, private sector or diverse stakeholder work, UN system experience, and developing country or humanitarian background.

UNICEF operates in over 190 countries to uphold children's rights, and its Tanzania country programme for 2022-2027 supports inclusive, sustainable development for children and adolescents, including those with disabilities. The position is based in Dar es Salaam, reports to the Head of Office, and may require humanitarian deployment. The temporary appointment is for four months; as an elevated child-safeguarding risk role, rigorous vetting applies. UNICEF offers benefits including paid parental leave and reasonable accommodation.

Applications are accepted through UNICEF's recruitment portal; only shortlisted candidates are contacted.
