Technology & Digital
Website Design and Development Consultant
About this role
Twaweza East Africa is seeking a qualified web developer, digital agency, or firm to design, develop, and launch a new organisational website. The website will serve as Twaweza's central digital hub, showcasing work across Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda while improving user experience, accessibility, visibility, and engagement with diverse audiences, particularly young people. The selected consultant or firm will lead the end-to-end design, development, testing, and launch of a modern, secure, and user-friendly website that reflects Twaweza's mission and regional presence. The assignment encompasses website architecture, UX/UI design, content management system development, AI-enabled functionality, quality assurance testing, staff training, and post-launch support.
Applicants must demonstrate proven experience designing and developing websites for NGOs, civil society organisations, research institutions, or development organisations, along with strong expertise in UX/UI design, information architecture, and front-end and back-end development. Required experience also includes working with CMS platforms, analytics, search engine optimisation, and website security. Candidates must present a portfolio of at least three relevant website projects completed within the last five years. Experience integrating AI-powered tools such as chatbots or virtual assistants is listed as an added advantage.
Twaweza East Africa operates across Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, focusing on citizen agency, civic space, and governance. The project is structured as a consultancy with an expected duration of twelve weeks, culminating in a fully launched website by the end of the assignment period. Applications must include an application letter, technical proposal, financial proposal, CV or company profile, links to at least three comparable website projects, and three referee contacts or reference letters. Submissions should be sent to the specified email addresses no later than June 2026.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further evaluation.
