Communications Advisor

About this role

Cuso International is recruiting a volunteer Communications Advisor for a full-time, five-month placement in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, starting in November 2026 and open only to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Working alongside the Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) and the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA), the advisor will document the impact of Special Project Fund initiatives supporting women’s economic empowerment, skills development, and entrepreneurship in and around the Geita mining communities. Core responsibilities include researching and writing human-interest stories, case studies, feature articles, and newsletters; capturing high-quality photography, short videos, and beneficiary testimonials; designing and implementing a comprehensive visibility plan for project milestones, launch events, training activities, and market linkages; managing digital and social media content; training TWCC and VETA staff in foundational communication skills; and working with program and MEAL teams to identify outcomes and emerging success stories. All content must follow Cuso International branding guidelines and ethical standards, including securing informed consent.

Essential qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field, plus demonstrated experience developing and executing communication strategies with a portfolio of print and digital content. Strong proficiency in writing, editing, photography, video production, and social media is required, along with the ability to deliver practical training and manage deadlines. English at Level 4-Advanced is required. This placement sits within the Sharing Canadian Expertise for Inclusive Development and Gender Equality (SHARE) project. Volunteers receive a support package including monthly living allowance, accommodation, health insurance, round-trip airfare, visa or work permit costs, training, and local support.
