The U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, under U.S. Mission Tanzania, is recruiting an Automotive Mechanic for the General Services Office motor pool. This is an internal vacancy open only to current Mission employees.

The incumbent will serve as a maintenance mechanic responsible for keeping U.S. Government-owned vehicles roadworthy. In fleet operations, they will perform major and minor overhauls and repairs to engines, transmissions, brake systems, suspension components, steering mechanisms, electrical, fuel and hydraulic systems, and wheel assemblies. They will also disassemble faulty equipment, carry out weekly preventive maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, transmission flushes, suspension overhauls and brake checks, test drive vehicles to diagnose problems, and complete unscheduled repairs after breakdowns.

Administrative duties include coordinating with outside repair facilities, submitting vehicle mishap or damage reports within 24 hours, managing the tool and materials inventory, and advising the supervisor when supplies need adjustment. Candidates must have completed secondary school at O'level and hold a vocational automotive repair, journeyman mechanic, or apprenticeship certification. A minimum of two years of experience as an automotive mechanic is mandatory. No separate preferred qualifications are stated in the announcement.

The motor pool sits within the Embassy's General Services Office, which supports the administrative operations of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Tanzania. The role is permanent, full-time and non-supervisory at grade LE-5, located in Dar es Salaam, with occasional travel and no telework or relocation reimbursement. Compensation is TZS 22,193,475 per year.
