Associate Director, Supply Chain Management

About this role

The Associate Director, Supply Chain Management provides strategic and technical leadership to strengthen Tanzania's public health supply chain and pharmaceutical services, ensuring sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, affordable health commodities. The role oversees efforts to strengthen national and sub-national supply chain systems and build personnel's capacity to sustainably manage health commodities procured through national and local systems, and strengthen pharmaceutical management systems including quality pharmaceutical services and national regulatory systems. Reporting to the Technical Director, the Associate Director shapes the overall strategic direction and oversees execution of supply chain activities, leading the design and implementation of innovations, documenting best practices, and ensuring quality implementation with performance monitoring and evaluation. Core responsibilities include setting overall strategic direction and performance indicators aligned with project objectives and donor priorities, providing leadership to the supply chain team and fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning, and leading the annual work-planning process in alignment with approved budgets.

The role ensures donor, programmatic, operational, and financial requirements are met and that deliverables are completed within established timelines and quality standards, overseeing implementation and monitoring progress against approved work plans and budgets while identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies. The position coordinates with the Director of Strategic Information on monitoring, evaluation, and adaptive management, reviews performance data to inform decision-making, and oversees preparation of donor reports, technical updates, work plans, and success stories. As the primary focal point for government counterparts, donors, and implementing partners, the role fosters collaborative relationships to strengthen ownership and coordination and represents the project at technical working groups and external forums. The role requires a Master's degree (or international equivalent) in public health, supply chain management, institutional development, or a related field, with PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred.
