Mott MacDonald, through its subsidiary Cambridge Education Tanzania Limited (CETL), is recruiting an Assistant Finance Officer for the Shule Bora education programme in Tanzania. The Shule Bora project is a UK aid-funded, government-led education support initiative that works nationally and across nine regions of Tanzania in partnership with Cambridge Education, ADD International, the International Rescue Committee, and Plan International. The programme aims to improve the quality of pre-primary and primary schools in Tanzania, with four primary outcomes: improving learning outcomes for all children, increasing transition rates to secondary school for girls, ensuring children's safety in and around schools, and supporting children with disabilities to access quality education.

The role is structured as a six-month internship within the Finance department, extendable by a further six months by mutual agreement, offering a recent graduate their first-hand experience in implementing a large-scale education programme. The intern will assist with preparing and checking bank reconciliation statements for timely submission, manage petty cash and maintain regular cash balance reconciliations, record all cash and bank transactions in the applicable books, and ensure records are up to date for submission to the UK head office. Additional duties include supporting cash payment disbursements such as per diems, producing reconciliations of payments and supporting documents, compiling vendor lists and collating vouchers for batch processing, preparing payment vouchers and cheques for undisputed invoices, and verifying that all payment vouchers meet minimum audit requirements with appropriate approvals and supporting documentation.

The post-holder will also ensure tax compliance with particular focus on withholding tax provisions, and carry out any other tasks assigned by the supervisor. Applicants must be Tanzanian nationals with two to three years of working experience and hold a minimum upper-second class degree or equivalent in Finance or Accounting. The ideal candidate is proactive, a strong problem-solver with good timekeeping and communication skills, demonstrates a genuine interest in improving education for all, and is fluent in spoken and written English.
