Project Coordinator — Ruvuma River Basin
Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA)
About this Role
The Project Coordinator provides technical leadership for a transboundary river basin management project spanning Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania — overseeing implementation activities, capacity development, and evidence-based science initiatives for the Ruvuma River Basin. Required qualifications include a Master's degree in environmental management or a related field (or bachelor's with demonstrated transboundary experience), a minimum of 10 years in river basin or water resources management, project management expertise, and English proficiency (Portuguese is advantageous). This role is directly relevant to Tanzania's water security and southern Africa development agenda, as the Ruvuma Basin is a shared transboundary resource requiring coordinated management to prevent conflict and support climate adaptation. Core responsibilities include monitoring project outcomes and social/environmental risks, overseeing demonstration projects, preparing donor reports, ensuring safeguards compliance, and liaising with steering committees across three countries. The ideal candidate is a SADC citizen with proven transboundary project management experience, strong stakeholder engagement skills across government and civil society, and technical expertise in integrated water resource management. This is a 36-month renewable contract based at the Project Management Unit in Mtwara.
