About this role

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat is offering six work-integrated learning opportunities for students and recent graduates from its sixteen Member States. The programme places participants across various directorates and units at SADC's headquarters in Gaborone, Botswana, and at the SADC Plant Genetic Resource Centre in Lusaka, Zambia, with the aim of providing comprehensive practical experience aligned with participants' academic programmes or professional development. Available positions include Communications and Public Relations focusing on Media Production, Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources with an Environmental Science orientation, Gender with a Monitoring, Evaluation and Research focus, Infrastructure in Cybersecurity, Procurement Ex-Ante, and Procurement and Administration at the Plant Genetic Resource Centre. Participants will contribute to the day-to-day operations of their assigned directorate, undertaking tasks, research, and projects relevant to their field of study under the guidance of supervisors, with learning and professional exposure as the primary objectives of the experience.

Eligible candidates must be nationals of SADC Member States, under the age of fifty-two years, enrolled in or graduated from a registered and accredited institution of higher learning, of good moral character with no criminal conviction, and possess the right to reside and work in the host country for the full duration of the placement. Student interns must provide a recommendation letter from their institution and demonstrate that the internship forms part of their academic programme with compulsory continuous assessment. Graduates must have passed and completed their qualification at least one year before enrolment. SADC will provide a monthly stipend of two hundred and fifty US dollars and cover the return airfare for each participant.

Member States are responsible for accommodation costs, medical and life insurance, and visa application fees. Internships run for a minimum of three months while graduate placements are fixed for a minimum of twelve months.
